It’s time to change your tyres? Did you reach the wear indicator or did you notice any cracks in the sidewall? Attention, the choice of a tyre should not be done lightly.
AN ADAPTED TYRE FOR YOUR VEHICLE
Do you have a passenger car, a 4 × 4, an SUV, a van, a camper? For all types of vehicles, there are specifically adapted tyres. So you will not be able to put van tyres on a passenger car or tyres for 4 × 4 on a camper. So that’s the first thing you need to look at when you buy a tyre.

SUMMER, WINTER OR FOUR SEASONS TYRE?
Then you have to choose Car tyres adapted to the season. In winter, if temperatures frequently fall below 7°C, prefer snow tyres. When temperatures get milder, opt for summer tyres. Finally, if you face year-round temperatures rather than moderate, all-season tyres will be ideal.
WHICH BRAND OF TYRES?
Once you know what kind of tyres you are going to buy look at the make and model. Either you want to keep the same tyres as those that were originally installed on your vehicle, or you want to change. Anyway, you cannot choose the brand of your tyres at random.
There are several categories of tyre brands.
PREMIUM TYRE BRANDS
These are brands such as Bridgestone, Continental, Dunlop, Goodyear, Hankook, Michelin, and Pirelli, which are known for the excellent performance of their tyres. As a result, the prices charged by these manufacturers are the highest on the market.
QUALITY TYRE BRANDS
This category includes BFGoodrich, Falken, Firestone, Kleber, Kumho, Maxxis, Nokian and Uniroyal brands. They are of very good quality, but cheaper than premium brands, so they offer a very good price/quality ratio. Some brands belong to larger groups (for example, Kleber belongs to Michelin), which allows them to benefit from all the innovations and technologies of the group.
BUDGET TYRE BRANDS
Less efficient than Premium or Quality brand tyres, budget brand tyres are recommended if you have a tight budget because they are cheap. There are for example Kenda, Mirage, Onyx or Ovation.
THE PRICE OF THE TYRE
The price is also a criterion of choice before buying a tyre. Indeed, you should know that tyres are always replaced in pairs, so you always have to buy two tyres (and therefore multiply the price of the tyre by two). Also remember that this sum is added the price of mounting generally between 15 and 20 € per tyre.
THE SIZE OF THE TYRE
To know the size of your tyres, just look at the sidewall of the tyres on your vehicle. The inscription indicating the size of the tyre is in the following form:
For example, the size of your tyre can be: 205/65 R16 91V, 205 being the width, 65 the height, R the tyre construction type, 16 the rim diameter, 91 the load index and V the speed index.
You must respect this dimension when installing new tires on your vehicle.
